About our Pastor
Pastor James R. Berger, a second generation American Baptist Preacher, began his ministry at the Cape Island Baptist Church as the Senior Minister in August of 2003.
Growing up in the mountains of Northern Pennsylvania, near Williamsport, he obtained an undergraduate degree in history from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and graduated with a MDIV from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Pastor Berger is a strong pro-life minister and a member of American Baptist Evangelicals, a revival movement within the American Baptist Churches, USA. He has a deep and abiding love for the inspired, inerrant words of scripture and enjoys sharing their eternal message week by week in the Sunday Worship, Sunday School and Wednesday night services.
During his years of ministry, he has served in churches in Houlton Maine, Pottsville Pennsylvania and Tekonsha Michigan before being called to pastor in Cape May.
His love for nature and the providential hand of God that he sees in all of the beauty that God has provided for us at the seashore makes him wish to share it with others. Since he moved to Cape May, Pastor Berger has become an important part of the spiritual life of our community. He, his wife Sarah and their daughters Catherine and Dorothy are very welcome additions to our church family and to the people of Cape May.
